I’m back from Chicago and the Chicago Zine Fest. I had 8 books for sale (The Grill Rats volumes 1-3 not shown here), and “Skunkball” was the best seller. It’s a meditation on memory based around a trip I took to Chicago in January of 1990, so it’s no surprise the Chicago folks enjoyed it. It has a woodblock printed cover, 5.5 x 8.5 inches, and 16 pages long. The people that like the physical quality of books enjoyed the tactile feel of the woodblock print.
The next best seller was “After The Goldrush” (the guy smoking the joint). It’s about my buddy Nate Solod, poet, drummer, singer/band frontman for his own bands and roadie for G. Love and Special Sauce back in the 1990s. It has a silkscreened cover with additional hand coloring, 8.5 x 11 inches, 26 pages long.
"Carnation Instant Nonfat Karma" and "Rabbit Reflux" are another couple of 5.5 x 8.5 inch, 16 page minicomics. These ones have individually watercolored covers. They are about some of my brothers from when we were kids back in the 1970s.
"The Boy With The Spyrograph Eyes" was the biggest, most expensive book I was selling, so naturally I didn’t sell as many of those. The people who wanted it the most were the poor, starving art students with no money. It’s 177 pages long with individually colored covers.
Thanks to the folks who put the Chicago Zine Fest together. Thanks to everyone who helped promote my stuff by reblogging, thanks to everyone who actually bought books, and thanks for all the positive feedback from the poor, starving art students who drooled over the linework.
